Would you be surprised to learn that there are probably plenty of toxic chemicals hanging out in your home that are bad for both you and the environment? The products you use every day have a huge impact on your overall health. Many things that we use daily can contain harmful chemicals that are toxic to your health and the health of the planet. Here’s a list of some of the most common toxic things you may be using daily.

Air Fresheners

The commercials make them look perfectly fine and safe. You see someone smiling and sniffing the air, but what they don’t tell you on the commercials is that air is full of chemicals and pollutants. Many air fresheners contain ethylene glycol and paradichlorobenzene, and even formaldehyde.

Perfumes

Similar to air fresheners, perfumes are supposed to make you smell good, but the chemicals found in perfume can cause headaches, nausea, dizziness, and even kidney damage. Some of the culprits commonly found hanging out in perfumes are benzaldehyde, acetone, camphor, ethyl acetate, and methylene chloride.

Fabric Softeners

Having soft clothes is nice, but not when it causes skin irritation, headaches, and even trouble breathing. The thin soft layer that many softeners coat your clothes with are made of toxic chemicals like quintenary ammonium salts.

Pizza Boxes

Most people love pizza, but unfortunately, your favorite delivery box might contain chemicals known as PFAs, which are used to coat your pizza box so the grease doesn’t soak through. This chemical is also found in things like microwave popcorn, tents, and carpet cleaners.

Hand Sanitizer

Hand sanitizer is a hot commodity right now, but not all hand sanitizer is created equal when it comes to its level of toxicity. A compound commonly found in hand sanitizer, triclosan, has been linked to hormonal problems. A safer alternative in hand sanitizers is ethyl alcohol.
