Brief: Vegas Heat, Dust, and Monsoon Season Are Hard on Glass and Exteriors

The news: Las Vegas is into its brutal stretch: June highs around 100°F or more, dust advisories with 25 to 40 mph winds, and monsoon season arriving over the coming weeks (NWS Las Vegas). Dust storms drive fine silica into every porous surface, and wind-blown grime from the storms settles on storefronts, glass, and concrete.

What it means for your facility: Las Vegas water runs 16 to 22 grains per gallon, about double the “very hard” threshold. When mineral-laden tap water dries on exterior glass (from irrigation, sprinkler overspray, or hose-downs) it leaves deposits that, left long enough, permanently etch the glass. Wind-driven dust and monsoon grime also accelerate wear on storefronts, sidewalks, and building exteriors.

Our take: This is the season to stay ahead of it. Scheduled professional window cleaning removes mineral deposits before they reach the etching stage, and commercial pressure washing clears dust, grime, and monsoon buildup before it sets in. Prevention now is far cheaper than glass replacement or surface remediation later.
