The National Weather Service has closed the books on meteorological summer, and the Review-Journal reports it was the valley’s second-hottest on record: an average of 94.7 degrees for June through August, behind only 2024. August alone was the hottest August ever measured here — 96.3 degrees on average, with 115 on the first of the month and daily records of 110 and 111 in the final week. The season ended the way it started: a band of tropical rain and thunderstorms crossed the valley along I-15 on Labor Day Sunday, and Clark County’s seasonal smoke-and-ozone advisory runs through September 30.
What it means for your building
Three months of that heat, capped by a wet, dusty finish, leaves a predictable set of marks on a commercial property:
- Exterior surfaces are carrying a full season of dust. Walks, entries, drive lanes and storefront walls have been baked and re-baked between storms; the last rain didn’t wash them, it set the film.
- Glass has been spotting since June. Sprinkler overspray and mineral-heavy water evaporate fast in 110-degree heat, and every spot that sat through the summer sun is one step closer to permanent etching.
- Interiors have been running on recirculated air. Doors stayed shut, HVAC ran hard, and the fine dust that got in has settled on high surfaces, vents, tracks and the tops of everything nobody dusts weekly.
- Track-in is about to spike. Wet lots plus the start of the Q4 traffic season means more grit through the front door, right when the floors just survived summer.
The move
The weather service’s own seasonal calendar says monsoon season runs into September; after that, the sun that turns spots into damage eases and the exterior work holds. This is the four-to-six-week window to do the reset once instead of chasing it all fall:
- Exterior reset — a pressure wash of entries, walks and storefront walls, with the wash water recovered rather than sent to the storm drain. Our pressure washing work runs on a reclaim rig for exactly that reason.
- Glass reset — exterior and high glass on pure-water poles, hard-water treatment on anything that spotted all summer, frames and sills included. See commercial window cleaning.
- Interior high-dust pass — vents, ledges, light fixtures, door tracks and entry mats, folded into the regular janitorial schedule so the building starts Q4 clean rather than “clean enough.”
